Cerritos: Roy Okimoto Killed in Collision with Pickup Truck
Posted on Nov 21, 2012
Shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Monday, November 19, Roy Okimoto, of Artesia, was killed in a collision in Cerritos. While exiting the 91 Freeway at Carmenita Road in a pickup truck, Okimoto was involved in a crash with another truck, which was traveling southbound on Carmenita at the time. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other truck was also injured. Authorities in Cerritos are investigating the accident.
“After a fatal crash, the driver whom authorities determine to be at-fault for the collision may be held liable for the loss suffered by the family of the victim,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis. “In many cases, the family will file a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver.”
Cerritos accounted for 6 of the 346 fatalities and 438 of the 62,881 injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety analyzes the traffic data of cities with populations of a similar size, giving those with the poorest records the highest ratings, with 1st place considered the worst. That year, Cerritos ranked 24th out of 93 cities with populations of between 25,001 and 50,000.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Roy Okimoto, the man killed in the collision with the truck.
