Chino: Alex Horta, Nathanial Marin, Andrew Deleon, Nathan Dominguez, and Luis Mendoza Killed in Crash

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, Alex Horta, Nathanial Marin, Andrew Deleon, 19, Nathan Dominguez, 18, and Luis Mendoza, 47, were killed in a crash in Chino, reported the Los Angeles Times. The 2000 Chevy truck the teenagers were riding in crashed into a K-rail on Pine Avenue near Mill Creek Avenue and then collided with the 2013 Honda Accord Mendoza was driving. The two vehicles burst into flames, trapping the occupants. Authorities are investigating the accident.
Compared to 101 other cities with populations of between 50,001 and 100,000, Chino ranked 16th for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a California Office of Traffic Safety ranking system in which 1st place is the worst. Factors that contributed to fatal and injury crashes in the city included speeding (97), alcohol (40), and hit-and-run (15), with Chino ranking 10th, 27th, and 57th for these traffic safety problems, respectively. Twenty-six of the accidents occurred between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m.
