At about 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 66-year-old Anubhai Patel and 67-year-old Shardaben Anubhai Patel, both of Anaheim, were killed in a rear-end collision in Diamond Bar. While traveling southbound on the 57 Freeway in a 2008 Cadillac Escalade, 69-year-old Thomas Mauk slammed into the back of a disabled 2006 Toyota Prius that was blocking the Number 3 lane. Shardaben Anubhai Patel, a passenger in the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. Anubhai Patel, the driver, died early Monday morning at an area hospital. Emergency responders transported Thomas and Denise Mauk to hospitals to receive treatment for traumatic brain injuries. The accident is under investigation.
