Downey: Female Driver Killed, Passenger Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on Oct 25, 2012

At about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, a 26-year-old female driver was killed and her 25-year-old female passenger was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Downey. While traveling southbound on Lakewood Boulevard in a Honda Civic, the woman collided with a Toyota Tacoma at the intersection with Firestone Boulevard. Paramedics transported the two women in the Honda to a local hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead and the passenger treated for major trauma. The 26-year-old male driver of the truck fled the scene. Downey police are investigating the accident and have requested that anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the male driver contact them at 562-904-2339.

“When a driver flees the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death, he or she not only violates California traffic laws but also leaves the victims to bear the financial burden of their recovery or loss,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

Downey accounted for 4 of the 346 fatalities and 872 of the 62,881 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in crashes that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Hit-and-run was a factor in 141 of the fatal and 14,735 of the injury collisions that occurred in the state that year.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the female driver who was killed in the hit-and-run accident. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the female passenger who was seriously injured.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram originally reported this Downey crash.
