Driver killed when car hits a tree

An Irvine driver was killed after her vehicle hit a tree on the center divider of University Drive in Irvine. This is the second time this week that a driver died after hitting a tree in the center divider.
Nineteen-year-old Erin Joyce of Lake Forest was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:38 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2009. The one-car accident took place on University Drive between Ridgeline and Michelson Drives. The accident totaled the Honda Accord, cutting it into two pieces.
The road was closed in both directions while police investigated the accident.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Police are asking that any witnesses call Detective John Cherney at (949) 724-7024.
Only two days earlier, on the morning of Saturday, December 12, Michelle Rochwarger Vered of Irvine died after a collision with a tree on Trabuco and Keystone Drives. The driver, a 54-year-old Irvine business leader, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Vered was the founder of the Irvine-based company, Strategic Resources Alliance.
