Two cars collided in the early morning hours of July 10, 2010, flinging one vehicle nearly two blocks away from the location of initial impact and leaving the other, a red car, totaled with a young man trapped inside, according to the Orange County Register. One person was taken to the hospital. Sheriff’s deputies are investigating whether alcohol use was a factor. The accident occurred on Trabuco Road and Cherry Avenue, near La Vina Drive, in Lake Forrest. A man residing near the scene of the accident contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department after being awakened by the sound of the crash.
We hope none of the accident victims sustained life-threatening injuries and wish them a smooth and timely recovery. They and their families will be in our thoughts and prayers.
While the cause of the accident is still unclear, we hope that it is not another instance of a collision resulting from driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 1,230 DUI arrests and 24 fatalities occurred over the July 4th weekend throughout California in 2008 alone. Nationwide, someone dies every 45 minutes from an automobile accident in which alcohol use was a factor, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC.
Accidents resulting from alcohol or drug impairment are unfortunately all too common in California and are often accompanied by tragic consequences. The injuries from these types are collisions are often severe—sometimes even life threatening. After such an accident, a thorough investigation of the scene will prove decisive to determining liability and the amount of compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage or loss the injured party is entitled to. During this difficult time, it may be best to allow an experienced California Injury Lawyer to investigate and advocate for the accident victim, allowing him or her to focus on recovering.
