At about 8:22 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, 60-year-old Salvador Saavedra was killed in a crash near Easton. While traveling northbound on Highway 41 in a Toyota Tundra, 28-year-old Jaime Cruz failed to stop for a red light at the intersection with Adams Avenue and collided with the Honda Accord in which Saavedra was a passenger. The accident is under investigation.
“When a driver’s negligence causes the death of another, the driver may be held liable for the loss suffered by the family of the victim,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.
In 2010, 31 passengers were killed and 1,691 were injured in collisions in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The number of traffic fatalities in the state increased 2.6 percent, from 2,720 in 2010 to 2,791 in 2011.
