Eighty-year-old Killed in Garden Grove Bicycle Accident

An 80-year-old man was fatally struck by a pick-up truck in a Garden Grove bicycle accident.
 
The accident occurred just before noon on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 on Brookhurst Street near Jennrich Avenue.    
 
The elderly bicyclist was cycling on Brookhurst Street when the driver of a Ford F250 struck made a right turn out of a shopping center parking lot and struck him. Authorities don't know which direction the cyclist was riding at the time of the collision.
 
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identity of the bicyclist has not been released.
 
The 36-year-old driver of the Ford, a resident of Huntington Beach, told investigators that he looked for traffic before pulling out of the parking lot but didn't see the bicycle. The Orange County traffic accident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be contributing factors to the crash.
