At about 2:30 a.m. on Monday, July 4th, a driver fatally struck a bicyclist who was riding along Vista Del Mar near Hyperion Way in El Segundo. The driver did not stop his vehicle to administer aid to the bicyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Unfortunately, police do not have a description of the driver or the vehicle, explains a California personal injury lawyer.
Los Angeles County accounted for 4,268 of the fatal and injury motor vehicle accidents involving bicyclists in 2009, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. That year, 99 bicyclists were killed in California, a decrease of 9.2 percent from 2008. Nationwide, there were 630 fatal accidents, the majority of which occurred in urban areas, at non-intersections, and between the hours of 4 a.m. and 8 p.m.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the bicyclist who was fatally struck in El Segundo on Monday.
