At about 2:43 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, 7-year-old Marissa Trujillo was fatally injured in a crash in Forest Falls, reported The San Bernardino Sun. Trujillo was standing outside of her family’s pickup truck, which was parked on the north side of Valley of the Falls Drive, with her father, uncle, and 9-year-old sister when another truck reportedly slid on the slick and icy roadway and crashed into them. Emergency responders transported the family to an area hospital, where Trujillo was declared dead a short time later. Authorities are investigating the accident.
Throughout San Bernardino County, 11,627 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked San Bernardino 38th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which first place is considered the worst. Statewide, 2,791 people lost their lives in crashes that year.
