Fountain Valley: Bicyclist Sean Severson Fatally Injured in Accident

Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014, 15-year-old bicyclist Sean Severson, of Westminster, was fatally injured in an accident in Fountain Valley, reported the Orange County Register. A Volvo was traveling southbound on Bushard Street when it struck Severson, who had entered the street at the intersection with Rose Avenue. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning. Authorities are investigating the accident and have requested that witnesses contact the Fountain Valley Police Department at 714-593-4484.
Twenty-nine bicyclists lost their lives or were injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Fountain Valley in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident statistics. Five of the victims were under the age of 15. The OTS ranked Fountain Valley 16th out of 102 cities with populations of between 50,001 and 100,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury cyclist accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
