    Four-vehicle crash kills woman in wheelchair

    A ride home turned fatal for 68-year-old woman in a wheelchair when the van that was transporting her became part of a four-vehicle car accident in Fountain Valley.
     
    The accident occurred around 3:14 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16. Lucy Solares of Huntington Beach was riding home from physical therapy in the back of a van especially modified to transport patients in wheelchairs.  
     
    The van was headed south on Euclid when it collided with two vehicles that were coming off the northbound I-405 offramp and making a left onto northbound Euclid. The collisions caused the van to spin. The van tipped and fell on a fourth vehicle and then on its side as it continued sliding to the south side of the intersection.
     
    Ms. Solares was strapped in the van, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Three of the four drivers were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
     
    Police are investigating the accident.  It is unclear which driver was at fault. If it was the driver of the transport van, both the driver and the transport company may be liable for damages.
     
    Investigators ask that anyone who saw the accident call the traffic bureau of the Fountain Valley Police department at 714-593-4481.
