Fullerton: Motorcyclist Jackie Walters Killed in 91 Freeway Crash

Posted on May 15, 2014

At around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 65-year-old motorcyclist Jackie Walters was killed in a crash on the 91 Freeway in Fullerton, reported the Orange County Register. While traveling on the eastbound side of the freeway, the 26-year-old female driver of a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse drove onto the right shoulder and struck the concrete sound wall near Beach Boulevard, the impact causing the right front tire to deflate. She then swerved to the left and into the path of Walters, who crashed into the driver’s side of the vehicle. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to the trauma he suffered a short time later. The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident records indicate that 760 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions that occurred in Fullerton in 2011. Thirty-two of the victims were motorcyclists. The OTS ranked Fullerton 11th out of 55 cities with populations of between 100,001 and 250,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury motorcycle accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
