Hillcrest: Three Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run

At about 11:40 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014, three people were seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Hillcrest. A 42-year-old male driver struck two parked vehicles in a parking lot at Park Boulevard and University Avenue and then fled the scene. He then ran a red light and struck a moving vehicle. Emergency responders transported three people to the hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of hit-and-run and felony DUI. The accident is under investigation.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records indicate that 17,718 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions that occurred in San Diego County in 2011. Hit-and-run was a factor in 1,011 of the accidents that resulted in injury or death. The OTS ranked San Diego 18th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury hit-and-run accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
