Hit and run driver does not escape police.

On Sunday January 3, 2009 at 2:00 am a BMW driver rearended another car at a stop light seriously injuring the occupant.  The rear end collision caused the Scion to be pushed into the intersection where it was struck by other cars.  The collision occurred near the Orange County ariport shutting down traffic for 12 hours in Newport Beach, California.  The BMW driver fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended at the home of a friend and remains in custody. 

It seems that drunk drivers are fleeing accidents more often because of the penalties assessed against them when they are drunk and cause an accident.  Police refused to speculate if this driver fled because he was driving under the influence, but did confirm that he had recently left a bar that evening.

The 18 year old passenger in the Scion, was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital.  We hope she makes a full recovery.
