Posted on Feb 11, 2014

At about 7:48 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, a semi truck fatally struck a mother and injured her daughter in a crosswalk in Hollywood, reported abclocal.go.com. While traveling southbound in the 1300 block of Bronson Avenue, the semi struck the woman, who was in her 30s, and child, who is around 10 or 11 years old. Emergency responders transported them to an area hospital, where the woman died from the trauma she suffered. The girl, a student at the school near where the accident occurred, sustained minor injuries.

Traffic accidents claimed the lives of 171 pedestrians and caused injury to another 4,850 in Los Angeles County in 2011, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Los Angeles ranked the 3rd worst in the state that year for fatal and injury pedestrian accidents. Large trucks were involved in 47 of the accidents that resulted in death and 1,607 of those that caused injury.
