Irvine Lake: Jorge Cisneros Killed, Five Injured in DUI Crash
Posted on Nov 07, 2011
Shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6th, 18-year-old Jorge Cisneros was killed and five others were injured in a DUI crash near Irvine Lake. While traveling at a high rate of speed on Santiago Canyon Road, 18-year-old Jesus Manzo Torres lost control of the 1996 Subaru Legacy, crashing into a tree, the impact shearing the vehicle in two, with the front half wrapping around the tree. Firefighters spent more than an hour extricating Cisneros from the wreckage; however, he died from his injuries while being transported to a local hospital. Torres’ legs were severed, and three passengers were ejected, landing more than 50 feet away from the vehicle. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence, explains an Orange County car accident attorney.
Orange County accounted for 101 of the 2,373 fatalities and 16,620 of the 207,651 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic accidents throughout California in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, alcohol contributed to 62 of the fatal and 1,340 of the injury collisions that occurred in the county.
