Irvine: Three Injured in Crash

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, three people were injured in a crash in Irvine, reported the Orange County Register. The collision, which involved three vehicles, occurred at the intersection of Alton Parkway and Red Hill Drive. Two of the vehicles may have collided head-on. Emergency responders transported a 50-year-old man and a 24-year-old man to hospitals to receive treatment for major trauma. A 16-year-old girl who suffered minor injuries was also taken to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the crash.
Motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 845 people in Irvine in 2011, the most recent year for which the California Office of Traffic Safety has released accident statistics. The OTS ranked Irvine 36th out of 55 cities with populations of between 100,001 and 250,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, 2,816 people lost their lives in traffic accidents that year.
