Jurupa Valley: One Killed, One Injured in Head-On Crash

At about 6:33 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, one person was killed and another was injured in a head-on crash in Jurupa Valley, reported The Press-Enterprise. The two-vehicle collision occurred at Pedley and Jurupa roads. While traveling northbound, the driver of a white Toyota Camry entered opposing lanes of traffic to pass a slower vehicle and collided with a red Buick Regal that was heading southbound. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn and land on its roof. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported an occupant of the Buick to an area hospital to receive treatment for moderate trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.
With an average population of 48,228 people, Jurupa Valley was home to 153 motor vehicle collisions in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Speed was a factor in 36 of the crashes that resulted in injury or death in the city that year. Jurupa Valley ranked 38th out of 94 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
