La Palma Teen Killed in Orange County Pedestrian Accident

A 16-year-old girl has died after an Orange County pedestrian accident.  The Cypress resident was a struck by a car while walking to school Monday morning.
 
The accident occurred at about 6:45 a.m. on Monday, November 1. The young woman was on her way to  John F. Kennedy High School student and was walking across a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Watson Street in La Palma when she was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Crescent.
 
The girl was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where she was listed as being in critical condition.  The girl was placed on life support after surgery and died on Thursday, November 4.
 
The driver was questioned and released.  No charges have been filed at this time. The accident is still under investigation and witnesses are asked to contact the La Palma Police Department at 714-690-3370.
 
Most pedestrian crossing accidents occur in marked crosswalks.  In California, drivers must watch for pedestrians and yield to them and take care for their safety at both marked and unmarked crosswalks.
