Laguna Hills: Bicyclist Peter Tomaino Fatally Injured in Collision

Posted on Dec 27, 2013

At about 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 82-year-old bicyclist Peter Tomaino was fatally injured in a collision with a vehicle in Laguna Hills, reported the Orange County Register. According to witnesses, Tomaino was crossing the west side of Paseo De Valencia from a Ralphs parking lot south of Alicia Parkway when he collided with a southbound vehicle. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are investigating who had the right of way; they do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. Witnesses are asked to contact the sheriff’s traffic bureau at 949-425-1860.

Traffic accidents claimed the lives of or caused injury to five bicyclists in Laguna Hills in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. The OTS compares the crash data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the greatest accident rates the highest rankings, starting with 1st place. That year, Laguna Hills ranked 60th out of 93 cities for its incidence of cyclist fatalities and injuries.

When a family loses a loved one to a traffic accident, they may file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver in order to hold him or her liable for their loss. For more information on the wrongful death claims process, please call 866-981-5596 or contact our Orange County office online.
