Lake Elsinore: Driver Seriously Injured in DUI Crash

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, a driver was seriously injured in a DUI crash in Lake Elsinore, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling eastbound on Highway 74, the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala collided with a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant that was turning south onto Trellis Lane from the westbound side of the highway. Emergency responders transported the driver of the Mitsubishi to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records indicate that 199 people were killed or injured in collisions that occurred in Lake Elsinore in 2011. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 18 of the fatal and injury accidents that year. The OTS ranked Lake Elsinore 53rd out of 102 similarly sized cities for its incidence of crashes involving alcohol in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
