Lake Elsinore: Three Injured in Head-On Crash on I-15

At about 8:49 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, three people were injured in a head-on crash on Interstate 15 north of Lake Elsinore, reported The Press-Enterprise. The collision, which involved a black Chevy Tahoe and a black Kia SUV occurred in the southbound lanes about a half-mile north of Horse Thief Canyon Road. The impact sent the Kia rolling down an embankment. It landed on De Palma Road, between Indian Truck Trail and Horse Thief Canyon Road. Firefighters had to extricate two people from the wreckage. Emergency responders transported three victims to area hospitals, two of them to receive treatment for major trauma.
In 2011, 199 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions that occurred in Lake Elsinore, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked Lake Elsinore 48th out of 102 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of fatal and injury accidents that year; 1st place is the worst possible ranking. Throughout the state, 2,857 people were killed in traffic collisions.
