Man Arrested for DUI after Huntington Beach Hit-and-run Accident

A Riverside man is in custody after a leaving the scene of an accident in Huntington Beach. 
 
The Huntington Beach hit-and-run accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19.  Police received two calls reporting an accident at Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue.
 
According to witnesses, a man driving a blue Mazda pickup truck hit a brown compact car.  After the driver of the car pulled over, the truck kept driving southbound on Beach Boulevard.  A witness gave the license plate number of the truck to the police.
 
A police officer stopped the truck at Beach Boulevard and Ellis Avenue and the driver, 50-year-old Augustine Mendoza, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
 
Mendoza is currently on probation for prior DUI convictions and a hit-and-run.  He was also charged with violating probation.  He is being held at the Huntington Beach Police Department jail.
 
The accident victim left the scene before police arrived.  It is not known if he sustained any injuries.
