Man Killed in Anaheim Drunk Driving Pedestrian Accident

A man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he ran over and killed an Anaheim pedestrian.
The Orange County pedestrian accident occurred on Thursday, November 11 at about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hempstead Street and Rio Vista. The 59-year-old driver was headed south in the No. 1 lane of Rio Vista in a white Ford Econoline van when he struck 58-year-old Everardo Tapia.
Tapia was crossing the section of Rio Vista about 30 feet from Hempstead Street that is bordered by a shopping center on one side and an apartment complex on the other. He was taken to a local hospital with fatal injuries; Tapia was pronounced dead just after 6:45 p.m.
The driver was given a field-sobriety test and arrested at the scene of the crash after failing to pass. The accident is still under investigation, and Anaheim police are asking any witnesses to call traffic investigators at 714-765-1861.
