Mission Viejo: DUI Driver Crashed into House, Killing Resident
Posted on Dec 29, 2013
Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2013, a DUI driver crashed into a house in Mission Viejo, killing the male resident inside. Located at least 30 feet from the curb, the house sits at a traffic elbow, where Pacato Drive and Olivera Drive meet at a right angle, reported the Los Angeles Times. The motorist may have failed to properly execute the turn from Olivera onto Pacato, sending the vehicle through the front of the house where the victim’s bedroom was located. Authorities suspect that alcohol and speed were contributing factors and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Traffic accidents claimed the lives of or caused injury to 243 people in Mission Viejo in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 34 of the fatal and injury collisions, while 72 were speed related. Twenty-seven of the crashes that resulted in injury or death occurred between 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m.
After a fatal crash, the family of the victim may hold the at-fault party liable for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim. To learn more about the wrongful death claims process, please call 866-981-5596 or contact our Orange County office online.
