Monterey Park: One Killed, One Injured in Car Accident

At about 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, one person was killed and one person was injured in a car accident in the city of Monterey Park, reported the Los Angeles Times. While traveling on Monterey Pass Road, a motorist lost control and collided with a parked car before striking a building near South Fremont Avenue. Emergency responders transported the injured person to the hospital. The accident is under investigation.
Throughout Los Angeles County, 72,593 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in 2011, according to the most current crash data available from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Los Angeles ranked the 9th worst in the state for its incidence of fatal and injury car crashes that year. Statewide, 2,816 people lost their lives in collisions.
