One Man Killed in DUI Motorcycle Crash on 405

A two motorcycle accident on the 405 Freeway left a Burbank man dead. The other man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. 
 
The California motorcycle crash occurred on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at about 4:40 p.m.  Two motorcyclists were travelling east on the 405 Freeway near the 10 Freeway. They were travelling at a high rate of speed in between the number three and number four lanes. One of the motorcyclists, a 23-year-old from Burbank riding a 2010 Ducati, rear-ended the other motorcyclist, a 29-year-old from North Hollywood on a 2004 Honda.  Both riders were ejected from their motorcycles.

The 23-year-old rider was taken to UCLA Medical Center.  His injuries proved to be fatal and he was pronounced dead at 4:52 p.m.  The 29-year-old rider also sustained injuries.  He was taken to the hospital, but was released into the custody of the California Highway Patrol.  He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
 
The northbound 405 Freeway was closed for several hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.  The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
