    Pedestrian killed in Westminster traffic-crossing car wreck

    One woman is dead and is injured after they were struck by a car while crossing the street in Westminster.
     
    The pedestrian accident occurred on the evening of Thursday, May 20. The women were crossing to the west side of Newland Street when they were hit by a southbound Nissan 200 SX.
     
    The women stepped out from a stopped vehicle and this may have prevented the 18-year-old driver from seeing the pedestrians.
     
    Both victims were taken to UCI Medical Center. One woman died at 1:30 am on Friday morning; the other is in stable condition.
     
    Last year, one pedestrian was killed and 29 were injured in Westminster.  
     
    These tips can help pedestrians stay safe:

    • Walk on sidewalks. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the edge of the road or on the left shoulder of the road, facing the traffic flow. 
     
    • Cross at marked crosswalks or intersections. 
     
    • Stop at the curb and look left, right, and left again for traffic. Stopping at the curb signals drivers that you intend to cross. 
     
    • Always obey traffic signals. 

     -Most importantly: See and be seen!
    -Wear bright colors or reflective clothing.
    -Carry a flashlight when walking in the dark.
    -Do not cross from between parked vehicles.
    -Stay out of the driver's blind spot.
    -Make eye contact with drivers when crossing busy streets.
