Rancho Palos Verdes: Sean Heffernan Killed in DUI Crash
Posted on Jan 30, 2013
On the night of Friday, January 18, 17-year-old Sean Heffernan was killed in a DUI crash in Rancho Palos Verdes. While traveling southbound in the 30400 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, 55-year-old Ho Seok Suh lost control of his 2004 Lexus and struck Heffernan, who was standing outside the driver’s side of one of the four parked cars Suh hit. Suh proceeded to swerve to the left and drive over the center median before stopping in northbound lanes. Heffernan was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries that night. Authorities arrested Suh on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
“When a family loses a loved one to a drunk driver, they may file a wrongful death claim in order to hold the driver liable for their loss,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
Rancho Palos Verdes accounted for 1 of the 568 fatalities and 34 of the 71,866 injuries suffered in traffic accidents that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 197 of the fatal and 4,359 of the injury collisions in the county that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Sean Heffernan.
