San Bernardino: Female Passenger Seriously Injured in Crash

Posted on Aug 12, 2013

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, a female passenger was seriously injured in a crash in San Bernardino. Twenty-seven-year-old Mike Yam crashed his Honda Accord into a signal light pole at the corner of Little Mountain Drive and Edgehill Road. Yam and 25-year-old passenger Rosita Williams sustained minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital. A female passenger was taken to another hospital to receive treatment for major head trauma. Authorities suspect Yam was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and arrested him. Witnesses, or anyone with information about the crash, are asked to contact San Bernardino Police Detective Kevin Jeffery at 909-384-5664.

“When a driver’s negligence causes harm to a passenger, the victim may file a personal injury claim against the driver in order to be compensated for expenses associated with his or her recovery,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.

The city of San Bernardino accounted for 4 of the 59 fatalities and 527 of the 4,056 injuries suffered by passengers in crashes that occurred in the county, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 105 of the fatal and injury crashes that occurred in the county that year. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked San Bernardino 15th out of 53 cities for DUI crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the female passenger who was seriously injured in the crash. We would also like to wish a full recovery to Mike Yam and Rosita Williams.
