San Bernardino: Anna Trucks-Fivgas and Walter Kovacs Killed in Head-On Crash

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014, 22-year-old Anna Trucks-Fivgas, of Running Springs, and 77-year-old Walter Kovacs, of Lake Arrowhead, were killed in a head-on crash in San Bernardino, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling downhill on Highway 18, Kovacs’ white 2002 Subaru Forester collided with the black Honda CRV Trucks-Fivgas was driving uphill near Upper Waterman Canyon. Kovacs was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported Trucks-Fivgas to an area hospital, where she died a short time later. A 3-year-old girl who was riding in the Honda was not seriously injured. Authorities are investigating the crash.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records indicate that 11,627 people were killed or injured in crashes that occurred in the county of San Bernardino in 2011. Compared to 57 other California counties, San Bernardino ranked 38th for its incidence of fatal and injury motor vehicle collisions in a rating system in which 1st place is the worst. The state’s incidence of traffic deaths rose 1.5 percent from 2,816 in 2011 to 2,857 in 2012.
