San Bernardino: Jose Luis Cordova Killed in Crash

Posted on Aug 11, 2014

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014, 45-year-old Jose Luis Cordova was killed and five others were injured in a crash in San Bernardino, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling eastbound on 5th Street in a 2001 Acura, 21-year-old Mario Muro ran a red light and collided with the driver’s side of Cordova’s 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck, which had been heading northbound on Arrowhead Avenue at the time. The impact caused the pickup truck to roll over. Emergency responders transported Cordova to an area hospital, where he died. His wife and young child were seriously injured and also hospitalized, along with three others who were in Muro’s vehicle. The accident is under investigation.

In 2011, the most current year for which California Office of Traffic Safety crash statistics are available, 978 people were killed or injured in collisions that occurred in San Bernardino. Traffic signs and signals were a primary collision factor in 129 of the fatal and 12,610 of the injury accidents that occurred in the state. Riverside ranked 23rd out of 55 similarly sized cities for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst.

When a driver’s negligence results in a fatal or injury accident, the victims or their families may file personal injury or wrongful death claims against the driver in order to hold him or liable for the expenses related to their recoveries or losses.
