San Diego: Speeding Contributed to Collision that Killed Alexander Antonio Sebastiano, Madhu Manoharan, Harold Eugene West, and Josefina De Dios West

Posted on May 29, 2012

Authorities have determined that speeding contributed to a collision that killed four people and injured three others on the morning of Friday, May 25th in San Diego County. While traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on State Route 67, 20-year-old Alexander Antonio Sebastiano lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado pickup near Rockhouse Road, veering into the opposing lane of traffic and crashing head-on into a Toyota Camry and then striking a Toyota Corolla. Sebastiano was killed in the impact, as was his passenger, 34-year-old Madhu Manoharan, and the driver and passenger of the Camry, 78-year-old Harold Eugene West and 74-year-old Josefina De Dios West. Paramedics transported the backseat passenger of the truck and the driver and passenger of the Corolla to nearby hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.

“After an accident causing serious or fatal trauma, the negligent driver’s insurer may be legally obligated to compensate the victims for the cost of their recovery or the families of the victims for expenses associated with their loss,” explained California personal injury attorney James Ballidis.

Traffic collisions claimed the lives of 112 drivers and 51 passengers and injured 11,403 drivers and 4,839 passengers throughout San Diego County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s most current accident data. That year, unsafe speed was a primary collision factor in 423 of the fatal and 47,869 of the injury crashes that occurred in the state.
