San Gabriel Valley: Three Killed in 60 Freeway Crash

Shortly before 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, three people were killed in a crash on the 60 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley, reported the Los Angeles Times. While traveling westbound, a Kia Soul veered off the freeway and onto the Crossroads Parkway off-ramp, where it went airborne and crashed into a construction zone. The occupants, two men and one woman, all in their mid 20s, died in the accident. Authorities are investigating the crash.
Traffic fatalities in California increased 1.5 percent from 2,816 in 2011 to 2,857 in 2012, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Los Angeles County ranked the 9th worst in the state for accident-related deaths and injuries in 2011. Collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 72,593 people in the county that year. Nationwide, traffic accidents killed 32,367 people.
