San Juan Capistrano: One Killed in Ortega Highway Collision

Shortly before 8 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, one person was killed in a collision on the Ortega Highway, reported the Orange County Register. The crash, which involved three vehicles, occurred just east of Gibby Road. The impact caused a silver Mercedes-Benz to slam into a tree. Authorities were on the scene investigating.
Motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 67 people in San Juan Capistrano in 2011, the most recent year for which the California Office of Traffic Safety has published accident statistics. The OTS ranked San Juan Capistrano 76th out of 94 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of collisions resulting in injury or death; 1st place is the worst possible ranking.
