Santa Ana: Hit-and-Run Driver Struck, Seriously Injured Three Teenage Boys

Posted on Nov 10, 2012

On the afternoon of Friday, November 9, a hit-and-run driver struck and seriously injured three teenage boys in Santa Ana. While traveling westbound on Fifth Street, the driver—who authorities described as a Hispanic man in his 20s—passed a vehicle stopped at Susan Street, hitting the group as they traversed the intersection, the impact reportedly throwing them onto the hood of the vehicle. Emergency responders transported them to an area hospital to receive treatment for serious trauma. Police have not apprehended the driver but did locate the vehicle at Fifth and Figueroa Street, which was registered to a resident of another city. Witnesses, or anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the driver, are asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227 or contact them online at  occrimestoppers.org.

“Hit-and-run drivers not only violate California traffic safety laws but also leave the victims of the accident with the burden of covering the cost of their recovery, which can be as financially devastating as physically painful,” explained James Ballidis, an Orange County attorney. “Once the driver is located, however, the victims may seek compensation from him or her for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering by filing a personal injury claim."

Santa Ana accounted for 6 of the 32 fatalities and 145 of the 809 injuries suffered by pedestrians in accidents that occurred in Orange County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, hit-and-run collisions claimed the lives of 147 people and injured another 19,009 in the state.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the three teenage boys who were struck and seriously injured by the hit-and-run driver.

The Orange County Register originally reported this Santa Ana accident.
