Santee: Jayli James Campbell and Anthony Foreman Killed, Three Teenagers Injured in Rollover Accident
Posted on Apr 05, 2012
Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, April 4th, 16-year-old Jayli James Campbell and 18-year-old Anthony Foreman were killed and three teenagers were injured in a rollover accident in Santee. While traveling on state Route 52 at speeds witnesses reported to be in excess of 100 mph, the driver of a Volkswagen Passat swerved and struck the center median, the vehicle rolling over several time before coming to a stop about 100 yards from the point of impact. Campbell and Foreman, both passengers in the back seat, were ejected from the car. Authorities pronounced them dead at the scene. A teenage girl in the front seat and a boy in the back seat sustained major trauma and were transported to hospitals, as was the male driver, who suffered minor injuries. Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that the Passat and a Volvo had been racing prior to the crash. None of the occupants of the Volvo were hurt, but the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Authorities are investigating the accident.
“The formal investigation into a fatal accident can take several weeks, which can be frustrating for family members seeking information about what happened to their loved one,” explained a California personal injury lawyer.
Santee accounted for 6 of the 163 fatalities and 193 of the 16,242 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in San Diego County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Nationwide, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teenagers, accounting for more than one in three fatalities among this age group. Drivers aged 16 to 19 are four times more likely to crash than older motorists, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
