South El Monte: Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision with Semi

At about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision with a semi truck in South El Monte, reported the Los Angeles Times. The semi struck the rider on the 60 Freeway near Peck Road. The driver did not stop to administer aid to the motorcyclist. Several lanes were closed for hours while an investigation was conducted. Authorities are searching for the driver of the semi truck.
South El Monte accounted for none of the 71 fatalities and 6 of the 2,657 injuries suffered by motorcyclists in crashes that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Large trucks were involved in 47 of the fatal and 1,535 of the injury collisions that occurred in the county that year.
