South Los Angeles: Oscar Toledo Jr. Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

At about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, 19-year-old Oscar Toledo Jr. was killed in a hit-and-run accident in South Los Angeles, reported the Los Angeles Times. A motorist struck Toledo as he made a left turn at South Normandie Avenue and West 47th Street and then fled the scene. Emergency responders were transporting Toledo to an area hospital when he succumbed to his injuries. The accident is under investigation.
Throughout Los Angeles County, 72,593 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Bicyclists were involved in 4,789 of the fatal and injury accidents. The OTS ranked Los Angeles 8th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury bicycle accidents in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
