Posted on Jul 16, 2012
At about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, July 13th, Roman John Jimenez Jr. and Anahi Donis were seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash. While traveling on Polk Street in a Dodge Ram, 23-year-old Gabriel Ochoa collided with a Toyota Corolla near Dronfield Avenue, the impact throwing a 19-year-old passenger from the car and causing the truck to roll over. Paramedics transported Jimenez and Donis to local hospitals to receive treatment for major trauma. Ochoa fled the scene but was later apprehended and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
“When a driver’s negligence causes an accident resulting in injuries, the driver may be held responsible for the cost of the victims’ recovery,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
The California Office of Traffic Safety indicates that collisions caused serious or fatal injury to 72,010 people in Los Angeles County in 2010. That year, hit-and-run was a factor in 5,962 of the accidents. Los Angeles ranked 15th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury collisions; 1st place is the worst a county may receive.
