Temecula: Vehicle Struck, Seriously Injured Skateboarder Joshua Schmittou
Posted on Nov 08, 2012
At about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, a vehicle struck and seriously injured skateboarder Joshua Schmittou in Temecula. The driver, Sandra Orlaski, collided with Schmittou as he skated across Winchester Road at Ynez Road. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Orlaski remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities are investigating the accident and have requested that witnesses, or anyone with information, contact the Traffic Division at the sheriff’s Southwest Station at 951-696-3000.
“When a collision results in serious injury, the negligent party may be held liable for the expenses associated with the victims’ recoveries,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
Temecula accounted for 1 of the 203 fatalities and 555 of the 11,298 injuries suffered by people in traffic accidents that occurred in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Temecula 43rd out of 53 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of fatal and injury accidents that year; 1st place is the worst ranking possible.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Joshua Schmittou, the skateboarder who was struck and seriously injured.
