Torrance: Vehicle Struck, Injured Cyclist

Posted on Jun 11, 2014

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, a vehicle struck and injured a cyclist in Torrance, reported the Los Angeles Times. The accident occurred near 226th Street and Western Avenue. Emergency responders transported the rider to an area hospital to receive treatment for a broken collarbone and ribs. Authorities are investigating the accident.

Motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 708 people in Torrance in 2011, according to the most current California Office of Traffic Safety crash data. Fifty-one of the victims were bicyclists. The OTS compares the accident statistics of cities with populations of a similar size and gives those with the poorest records the highest rankings, starting with 1st place. That year, Torrance ranked 21st out of 55 cities for bicycle accidents.

Cyclists who have been injured in accidents that are attributable to the negligence of motorists may file personal injury claims in order to obtain compensation for the expenses related to their recoveries, such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
