A 44-year-old truck driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his 20,000 pound tractor into the yard of a Garden Grove home. The truck was not pulling a trailer.
The truck accident was reported at 10:7 am on February 12 on Woodbury Road near Euclid Street.
William Michael David of Mission Viejo was driving the truck west on Woodbury when he ran off the road and into a front lawn knocking down fruit trees, small palm trees and planters. The truck then collided with a brick wall that separated the home from nearby apartment buildings.
Thirty-seven-year-old Olga Quiroz was in the yard when the truck crashed through. She suffered leg injuries and was taken to the hospital. Her children, an 11-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, witnessed the crash, but were not injured.
A neighbor said that she saw the tractor-truck speeding down the road and then saw the driver reach down to get something right before the crash.
Forty-five minutes earlier, the driver was involved in another wreck at the intersection of Euclid Street and Trask Avenue. He had struck a vehicle and left the scene. The female driver followed him to the scene of the second incident where she identified the driver as the one that caused the earlier crash.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI. He had been at his trucking company job for two days.
