Two Killed in Santa Ana High Speed Drunk Driving Crash

A teenager was charged with two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter after a high-speed Orange County car crash that killed a high school student and his father.
 
Douglas Uselton, 17, and his father Steven Uselton, 44, both of Buena Park, were killed at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, while on their way to a debate tournament in Cypress.
 
The Useltons were at the intersection of Knott and Crescent Avenues in Buena Park when their 2000 Buick LeSabre was hit by a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer that drove through a red light at a high rate of speed. The Mitsubishi slammed into the Buick with enough force that both occupants died at the scene. Buick sedan traveled more than 130 feet after the crash before coming to a stop.
 
Rafael Lopez, 18, of Anaheim was driving the Mitsubishi Lancer.  He sustained minor and was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. After he was discharged, he was arrested by Buena Park police.
 
Lopez is charged with having a .13 blood alcohol level; the legal limit for someone under age 21 is .01.  He is also being held on charges of vehicular manslaughter by an unlawful act causing death with gross negligence while intoxicated, with sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury.
