Van Nuys: Christina Lynn Ruvalcaba Killed, Blanca Ruvalcaba Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident
Posted on Dec 05, 2011
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two pedestrians in Van Nuys, causing the injuries that ultimately killed one and seriously injured the other. While traveling on Erwin Street just west of Vesper, 33-year-old Alfonso Garnica-Mozgueda swerved into two women who were standing near a parked truck, the impact throwing 34-year-old Blanca Ruvalcaba several feet. Ruvalcaba and her 39-year-old sister, Christina Lynn Ruvalcaba, were transported to the hospital, where Christina succumbed to her injuries. A baby who was in the truck was not hurt in the incident. Garnica-Mozgueda fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended and charged on suspicion of murder. Authorities have asked witnesses to the hit-and-run accident to call Officer Douglas Larkin of the Valley Traffic Division Detectives at 818-644-8036, explains a California personal injury lawyer.
Los Angeles County accounted for 177 of the 596 fatalities and 5,215 of the 13,083 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents throughout California in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of counties with similar populations, ranking those with the poorest records the highest. Placing in 1st is considered the worst. That year, Los Angeles ranked 3rd out of 58 counties for pedestrian safety.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Christina Lynn Ruvalcaba, the woman who was killed in the hit-and-run accident on Sunday. We would also like to wish Blanca Ruvalcaba a full recovery.
