Victorville: Car Struck, Killed Motorcyclist

At about 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, a car struck and killed a motorcyclist in Victorville, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling southbound in the 14000 block of Valley Center Drive, the driver of a 2007 Saturn made an abrupt left turn in front of 62-year-old motorcyclist Roger Wayne Woods, who was heading northbound at the time, causing a collision. Emergency responders transported Woods to a local hospital, where he was declared dead at 9:36 a.m. The accident is under investigation.
Motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 375 people in Victorville in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Eighteen of the victims were motorcyclists. The OTS ranked Victorville 45th out of 55 similarly sized cities for car crashes and 22nd for motorcycle accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, motorcycle fatalities increased 4.6 percent from 415 in 2011 to 435 in 2012.
