Victorville: Semi Struck, Killed Female Pedestrian

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, a semi truck struck and killed a pedestrian in Victorville and then fled the scene, reported the Victor Valley News Group. The accident occurred on Hesperia Road near Jasmine Street. The victim, an African American female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver returned to the scene while authorities were investigating and is cooperating with them. The name of the victim will not be released until her next of kin is notified of the accident.
Thirty-seven pedestrians were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Victorville in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Twenty-eight of the fatal and injury accidents occurred between 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m. Hit-and-run was a factor in 18 of the crashes. Across California, traffic-related pedestrian fatalities increased 3.9 percent, from 601 in 2010 to 625 in 2011.
