Westminster: Collision on 405 Freeway Injured Three People

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. this morning, a collision on the 405 Freeway in Westminster left three people injured. The accident was triggered when a Toyota rear-ended a Hyundai, the impact sending the vehicle into a Porsche. Both the Toyota and the Hyundai subsequently struck the center divider, critically injuring the driver of the Hyundai. She was transported to a local hospital, along with two other vehicle occupants. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, according to an Orange County auto accident attorney.

Westminster accounted for 490 of the 18,867 fatal and injury traffic accidents that occurred in Orange County in 2009, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident statistics. That year, the number of deaths suffered in crashes in the state decreased by 10.3 percent, the lowest level recorded since 1975. Nationwide, fatal collisions decreased by 9.9 percent from 2008 to 2009.
