Winnetka: Griselda Sandoval Killed in Crash with Drunk Driver
Posted on Jun 29, 2012
Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 25th, 25-year-old Griselda Sandoval was killed in a crash with a drunk driver. The accident occurred in the 19700 block of West Parthenia Street when 50-year-old Valerie Stewart swerved from the eastbound lane into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Honda Civic in which Sandoval was riding. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her brother, the driver of the Honda, sustained minor injuries. Stewart, who suffered moderate trauma, received medical attention at a hospital and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
“Drivers who cause fatal accidents often face both criminal charges and civil lawsuits,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis, “as the state must punish them for violating its laws and the families of the victims seek to hold them accountable for their losses.”
Traffic collisions claimed the lives of 390 motor vehicle occupants and injured another 64, 178 in Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol contributed to 204 of the fatal and 4,672 of the injury crashes that occurred in Los Angeles County and 1,146 of the fatal and 17,976 of the injury crashes that occurred in the state that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Griselda Sandoval, the woman who was killed in the crash with the drunk driver.
